Lonesome George in 2011, the last remaining Pinta Island Tortoise. George lived at the Darwin Research Station on the Island of Santa Cruz. George died of old age in 2012 at the age of about 102.

These images are of giant tortoises in the Galapagos Islands. Images are of both wild specimens on different islands and individuals at the Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz Island. Two of the images show tortoises with closed eyes. These animal are very much alive, just napping!
